Job Description:

This is an internship for a Grassroots Organizing Intern. Working directly with this local non-profit agency and the local public policy department, this position will assist with grassroots methods of increasing awareness about political issues and candidates on the intern's surrounding community. The grassroots organizing intern will report directly to the internship supervisor, who will provide supervision, training, direction and feedback as necessary. Hours are flexible but regular evening and weekend hours will be required.

Specific responsibilities will include:

• Attend meetings, outreach activities and special events to increase organizational membership
• Identify and coordinate events and venues to recruit volunteers
• Assist with coordination and implementation of legislative strategic plans and activities in target districts, e-activism, constituent education, phone banks, neighborhood canvassing, and voter identification
• Assist with training and retaining an active grassroots advocate base to engage in political activities
• Work with the grassroots team in mobilizing supporters for local and national activities
• Perform other relevant administrative, events, and fundraising tasks
• Complete all requisite programmatic documentation in a timely manner

Qualifications for the successful applicant include:

• Currently enrolled in degree program at an accredited institution
• Able to commit a minimum of 35 hours per week
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to coordinate volunteer events and several simultaneous projects
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must be self motivated, well organized and have an enthusiastic desire to support political issues in a non-partisan manner
• Interest in and sensitivity to diverse ethnic, cultural and religious groups
