Job Description:

The Patent Law Internship is designed to provide law students interested in pursuing a career in patent law with a working knowledge of the decision-making processes of the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

In general, the Patent Law Interns will have the opportunity to:

• Work under the supervision of an Administrative Patent Judge
• Participate in the evaluation of patent appeals and/or interferences
• Draft opinions relating to patent appeals and/or interferences as directed by the assigned panels
• Tour client design and manufacturing facilities
• Visit and observe oral argument at court
• Attend classes at the regional Patent Training Academy, when available
• Observe hearings in patent appeals and/or interferences

The nature of the work to be performed will be substantive and will vary according to the needs of the assigned Patent Judge.

Skills of the successful applicant will include:

• Word processing skills are a must
• Legal research and writing skills are also a plus
• Well-organized and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
