Job Description:
The Ecological Intern manages and maintains conservation spatial data sets and performs advanced spatial data analysis. Job duties include compiling, assembling, and performing spatial analysis on land protection, biodiversity and ecological information from various sources. This may also include one or more of the following functions:
- Builds, maintains, and populates data and records in geodatabases
- Maintains all documentation for data, data management, and spatial analysis
- Performs spatial data analysis using tools developed in ModelBuilder and other ArcGIS tool sets and extensions
- Processes spatial and other relational data sets derived from electronic, cartographic and tabular source material
- Produces maps and other graphic products and reports as required for project deliverables
Basic qualifications for this position include:
- Enrollment in a degree program in science related field (Geographic Information Sciences preferred)
- Experience managing, maintaining and populating geodatabases using ArcGIS Desktop/Arc Catalog
- Experience in analyzing spatial data and producing data reports
Demonstrated experience in the following areas will also be helpful:
- Interpretation of image analysis
- Complex spatial analysis
- Data modeling
- Landscape scenario analysis
- Collaborating with other parties to obtain different data sources
- Ability to make practical sense out of processed data and apply to real world applications
- Demonstrated experience operating GIS software (in particular ArcGIS 9.2/9.3)
- Managing relational databases and creating maps
